2019-10-16 13:55

Xinhua News Agency Oct.16th, (Reporter Wen Jinghua, Zhang Quan) On the 1st World Science and Technology Development Forum co-hosted by China Association for Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, the organizing committee issued the 10 Scientific Issues of Human Society 2019.

“As proved by facts, the realization of sustainable development can’t be achieved by any single country or organization as it required the collaboration across the globe.” Pointed out by Cai Ronggen, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the issuer of the 10 Scientific Issues. Therefore, the Chinese Association for Science and Technology has organized relevant organizations to pull wisdom of world class scientists. From the basic need of human sustainable development, we have raised the 10 Scientific Issues to be solved in health, environment and energy sectors.

The four health issues among the 10 Scientific Issues include: how to prevent and stop the massive spread of newly-found infectious disease; how does relocation affect people’s body and mind; whether accurate and full forecast of future disease can be predicted; which new technologies can be applied to the early diagnosis of cancer and post operation monitoring.

Three issues in the environment field are as follows: how could people keep developing in the safe Earth boundary? How could we effectively solve the pollution of air, water and soil? How could we completely purify and process waste and dirty water?

Besides, three issues in the energy issues are: can controlled nuclear fission reaction solve mankind’s future energy issue? How you effectively transform and store new energies? How can big cities realize the supply balance and equality of energy, water and food.

As we know, the ten issues reported this time center on the 1t development goals proposed in the UN 2030 agenda of sustainable development. Based on the searching results of popular key words in relevant science and technology research in Scopus data base, editors of prestigious science and technology journals and high-end strategic scientists at home and abroad proposed these issues through repeated discussions. Through the wide-range of assessment by scientists in many different fields across more than ten countries and regions including China, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, these issues were eventually decided by the 9th special committee for academic exchanges at China Association for Science and Technology.

“Global issues require global solutions, especially for a series of cross-boundary issues regarding climate, air, water, soil and oceans. Scientists across all countries should cooperate hand in hand to seek together scientific solutions”, says Cai Ronggen.
